DAY 1

All tour members will be transferred
from the airport by tour bus to
the Christchurch hotel

DAY 2

Breakfast before departure at the hotel.

8.00 am

Depart Christchurch Hotel by tour bus.

10.00 am

Arrive at “Cheddar Valley Station” to meet the owners Jason & Tracey McDonald.

Served farmers morning tea before activities

12.15 pm

Farmers lunch: which includes export quality world famous New Zealand beef.

Farm Activities

  • Watch and photograph sheep dogs mustering a mob of sheep off a hill block
  • The opportunity to ride in a 150 horse power tractor
  • Fun interaction and feed a herd of calves reared by Tracey McDonald
  • Visit the large “Cheddar Valley Station” woolshed, and learn how it is used for sheep shearing and wool preparation for sale

2.30 pm

Arrive at the “Zino Brothers” North Canterbury Deer farm to view live deer and learn how a deer farm is managed.

3.45 pm

Arrive at “Mudhouse Winery” and café for afternoon tea or wine tasting.

5.45 pm

Arrive back at the Christchurch Hotel to change and prepare for dinner.

(Morning tea will consist of tea, coffee, and milk. The food will vary from day to day and consist of scones with jam and cream, muffins with creamy butter and variety filled sandwiches.)

DAY 3

Breakfast before departure at the hotel.

8.00 am

Depart Christchurch Hotel by tour bus.

10.00 am

Arrive at Geraldine’s Mundells Café and Restaurant for morning tea. Opportunity for souvenir and wool garment shopping

12.00 noon

Arrive at “The Good Shepherd Church” overlooking Lake Tekapo. Lake Tekapo is part of a UNESCO Reserve. It gets its intense milky-turquoise colour from the fine rock-flour (ground by glaciers) which is suspended in the water. Take 250m walk over new viewing bridge to the Godley Hotel for lunch.

2.30 pm

Arrive at “Lake Pukaki” lookout for photographs of Mt Cook and Lake Pukaki. “The best lookout in New Zealand” complimented by travellers.

3.30 pm

Arrive at The Hermitage Hotel Mount Cook for afternoon tea, accompanied by breath-taking close up views of Mount Cook part of its snowladen terrain. Mt Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand at over 12,000 feet above sea level.

6.00 pm

Arrive at “The Country Time Hotel” which is situated in the countryside of Omarama. With lovely uninterrupted views of the McKenzie basin and surrounding mountains.

DAY 4

Breakfast before departure at the hotel.

8.00am

Depart Country Time Hotel Omarama by tour bus.

8.10am

Arrive at The Wrinkly Ram to view an amazing film about merino sheep which shows the shepherds mustering sheep on horse back, drafting sheep, shearing sheep and the wool being carded and spun and made into high fashion womens garments, displayed on the catwalk. Then James will shear a sheep and explain the finer points of shearing.
We have morning tea, then enjoy shopping especially the fine merino woollen garments.

10.10am

Arrive at 700 metre Lindis pass. Lindis Pass is a Scenic Reserve, it’s sculptured smooth hillslopes and mountains. Take photographs of the lovely native tussock grassland at the lookout; stunning yellow-brownish grass that looks like very short, soft fur from afar during Summer & Autumn.

11.45am

Arrive at Wanaka’s Edgewater Resort for lunch. This is a spectacular resort right on the edge of Lake Wanaka and we are all privileged to be able to use these premises (this will be a highlight of the trip).

2.30pm

Arrive at Highlands Motorsport Park for

  • Our tour bus with one of Highlands experienced drivers on board will give a commentry while travelling the actual race track
  • Experience a fast car lap with one of the professional drivers around the race track, at speeds up to 180km p/hr (optional, additional cost)
  • Enjoy a go-kart racing experience (optional, additional cost)
  • Visit the museum which consists of the rare types of saloon and racing cars (Bus trip around race track, museum entry and afternoon tea is included in the tour package)

4.30pm

Arrive at the Cromwell Racecourse for the real fun ram race, then we all feed these 100kg racing rams. Then John McDonald will give a short explanation of how the latest world technology of DNA and gene markers is used in the McDonald’s sheep and cattle breeding programmes.

6.00pm

Get checked in at the Harvest Hotel Cromwell at the edge of the Cromwell Golf Course and Lake Dunstan. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

DAY 5

Breakfast before departure at the hotel.

8.00am

Depart the Harvest Hotel Cromwell by tour bus.

9.10am

Arrive at the latest technology dairy farm and if timing is right, we will
observe about 50 dairy cows being milked in the high tech milking
shed.

10.15am

Arrive at The Kinaston Station to meet the owners Glen and Alisa
McDonald

12.45pm

Arrive at Clyde’s Paulinas Restaurant for a boutique lunch experience.

  • All of our tour group will help Glen McDonald muster a mob of sheep into the sheep yards. Then observe Glen’s dogs hunting the sheep up the ramp into the woolshed pens.
  • Then experience a typical famers morning tea in the woolshed.
  • All of our tour group will have fun including patting and getting to know the children’s farm animals which includes: horses, dog, sheep, lambs, a calf and a tame cow.

2.30pm

Arrive at Cromwell’s championship golf course where the qualifying round for the New Zealand open is held. Those who wish to play 9 holes of golf in a cart will disembark. Those not playing golf will travel to the beautiful Carrick Winery for wine tasting and an upmarket afternoon tea. (The views and the wine are of world standard)

5.30pm

Arrive back at Harvest Hotel Cromwell. Dinner served at the hotel

DAY 6

Breakfast before departure at the hotel.

8.00am

Depart The Harvest Hotel Cromwell by tour bus.

8.15am

Arrive at The Jones Family Fruit stall, where there will be the opportunity to browse their well set up fruit and other produce display and walk and photograph Mrs Jones beautiful rose gardens
(this is a real treat).

9.30am

Arrive at Gibbston Valley Cheese for their famous cheese tasting (with morning tea).

 

10.00am

Arrive in the beautiful historic mining town of Arrowtown, where you will have the opportunity to visit the old mining village and browse the shops.

11.45am

Arrive at Jacks Point golf resort for lunch and photo opportunities.

1.45pm

Arrive at Kingston Station where the manager Andrew McLaughlan will explain how he runs the sheep and cattle station. This is an opportunity to hike through the flat part of this exclusive station which will be about 100m above Lake Wakatipu which will give you outstanding views of the lake and mountains. There will be plenty of photo opportunities to capture this very special part of New Zealand.

4.30pm

Arrive at the Queenstown Hotel for free time until dinner at 7pm.

 

DAY 7

Breakfast before departure at the hotel.

8.00am

Depart Queenstown Hotel by tour bus.

9.30am

Arrive at Arcadia Station to be welcomed by the station owners Jim and Ros Veint. Visit the sights where The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and where many other films have been made. Drive through most of the station to view and photograph some of the most beautiful views in NZ where sheep and cattle situate in a beautiful environment. We will be driving through some of New Zealand’s most ancient native bush.

12.15pm

Arrive at Glenorchy township at the head of Lake Wakatipu for lunch.

3.00pm

Arrive at the beautiful “Moke Lake” (weather permitting) and view where John’s father Bill McDonald farmed the 32,000 acres of Ben Lomond Station. We will have a picnic afternoon tea down by the lake.

4.30pm

Arrive at the Skyline Queenstown to go up to Bobs Peak (part of the original “Ben Lomond” Station) by gondola to view and photograph Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu. One of NZ’s most spectacular sights.

6.30pm

Arrive back at the Queenstown Hotel and prepare for dinner.

7.30pm

Enjoy the McDonalds Farewell Dinner.

DAY 8

Depart Queenstown Hotel by tour bus to the Frankton International Airport and start your journey home. We hope you all have enjoyed your NZ experience with us.
